How long have you been in your industry?30 plus years
Why did you choose your industry?Well, I think it chose me. I went from an acting career to healing. I started out with massage very accidentally in college and from there added Reiki, nutrition, hypnosis, coaching, and psychedelic coaching. I have my PhD, written 8 books and have lectured all over the world. All of the aspect of my business allow me to be of service and help people grow and be better. I guide them through crossroads, help them with physical and emotional pain and entertain them on stage.
Who are your typical clients? For coaching, my clients are mostly women, though I do have a handful of men. I see couples. Usually the people that seek me out are in transition or who are at a cross roads and not sure where to turn. They need guidance and insight. For speaking since my topics are stress, communication and change I see a lot of people in hospitality, HR, first responders and medicine, and the travel industry.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I wake up every day thrilled at getting to help people. Whether it's in person as a coach or hypnotherapist or on a podcast or radio show, the books I've written or a live talk, knowing that I get to be of service drives me.
What are common problems you see?The problem I see right now in the coaching industry is anyone that likes to give advice is calling themselves a coach. That's actually not at all what that profession entails. There is a lot of education involved and coaching is a very different type of communication and interaction than any other form of communication. Psychedelics is seeing a lot of untrained people leading journeys.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Get to know yourself as well as you can. When you've reached your limit with that seek out resources to learn more, maybe specifically with a coach or therapist. There is no shame in reaching out to people for assistance. Be honest. Don't be afraid to ask for what you need. Never stop learning. Face your childhood trauma, whether big T or little t. Surround yourself with people who love you.
When is your busy season?never much difference
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? Most of my business at this point is word of mouth. I do have websites and at the end of my talks and presentations I give my websites and information.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Planned Parenthood
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Make sure you have thorough education. Continue to learn and grow as people are always changing so the best way you can be of service is to be constantly on the lookout for new tools or tips that you can give your clients.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Aerial silks, flying trapeze, dancing, learning and teaching, cooking and dungeons and dragons
