About Ontario Community ChurchOntario Community Church is a historic Japanese American congregation on the Oregon–Idaho border, focused on the love of Christ and the truth of Scripture. We seek to live out the gospel through living and loving like Jesus though keeping the main thing the main thing, not dying on secondary hills, community presence, and just coming alongside people in their journey in life.
What differentiates you from the competition? Our approach to be deeply biblical but nonpolitical; to be present in the community and coming alongside people on their spiritual journey in faith.
What is the biggest marketing challenge that you will face in the upcoming year?I think it is just getting the public to understand that we are not the typical church. We are focused on being present in the community, keeping the main thing the main thing, and not dying on secondary issues.

How is your ministry engaging with the community today? It is with partnering with community organizations who align with the mission of the church. We show up to serve with our partnerships and establish relationships that help the church and the partner grow.

What role does technology play in spreading your message? We use multi-streaming to broadcast the service, podcast archives, and social media to reach locally and beyond.

How do you support spiritual growth among your members? It is coming along side them in their journey in faith. Every person is different, so if there is a specific need we help as best as we can.

We also have sermon based bible studies, and for this year 2025, we are doing advent devotionals. In other words, we want to make sure that our sermons are deep with notes and slides available, as well as bible studies that can be used personally or in a group; this helps with spiritual formation.

What challenges are ministries facing in the modern world? In the area that I minister, ministries face the challenge of nonprofits that do easter egg hunts, fall festivals, movie nights, and do things that churches do. So, our approach is to partner with them, and come alongside them rather than be lost in a sea of many organizations doing the same thing. Presence builds trust and relationships that allow for ministries to grow and thrive.

How do you balance tradition with innovation in worship? Well, it is ensuring that technology, AI, innovation does not go beyond scripture. When we keep the main thing the main thing, it allows for us to focus on delivery and how we reach people rather than what content is delivered or sent.

What initiatives are you leading to serve vulnerable populations? It has to do with our partnerships. We focus on families with our STEAM nights (church hosted) and Building Healthy Families partnership with parent cafe’s. Children need safe places to grow, have fun, learn and thrive, and families need space where they can become stronger.

How can younger generations be more involved in ministry? Young peoples creativity and innovation can be a valuable tool for churches and ministries. Technology is growing leaps and bounds and because younger people are more native to this, they can help reach new people and help build up the church.
